Want to see some high-quality, in-person interviews of me about my work? Good audio, good video, good editing, good questions? Then please help fund Derek Lambert’s new project!
Lambert needs a budget to fly out to the mountains of California where I live and hole up with me for a couple of days with real film gear and sound equipment, shooting a plethora of interviews on all subjects. You can even recommend to him questions you’d like him to ask or topics to cover when you send a donation to his GoFundMe campaign for this project.
You’ll esspecially want to financially support this project if you’ve liked my MythVision episodes that Lambert has hosted in the past, which have so far only been by video link rather than in-person or in-studio; but even if you aren’t familiar with those: Lambert is an excellent host and ready to do a high-end series if he can get his budget funded (he’s developing similar series with Robert Price and others). Some of the funds raised will go to me to cover my time, so you’ll also be supporting me—not just with dosh, but by funding some higher-than-usual-quality audio-video that will then be available to the world and thus help disseminate my ideas, findings, and methods. Indeed! You can make that happen.
Here is the text of his GoFundMe appeal:
I (MythVision/Derek Lambert) have made a bit of history by recording Dr. Robert M. Price with my professional camera gear in person. Many of the wonderful fans of the MythVision Podcast have had their questions asked and answered while recording in great quality. If their video hasn’t been released it is on the MythVision Patreon ready for release.
My goal is to fly to Dr. Richard Carrier in California and record him for two full days. I hope to get 50-75 videos made with him answering as many questions as possible from those who would help make this possible. If you’re interested in having your name mentioned just let me know.
The funds are to afford paying Dr. Carrier for his time, getting my flight, hotel for two nights and driving services. I would need the funds before the end of June. I would like to plan my flight in September.
If you love the topics discussed by Dr. Richard Carrier, like, Anti-Apologetics – Mythicism – Ancient Science – Early Christianity – Historical Methods – Naturalism – Roman History – Early Church Fathers – ETC., then please help contribute to make this trip possible.
I’m looking forward to completing this project with him.
I loved the Price interviews and was hoping he would do one with you. I wish I was in the position to donate more to such a worthy cause. Good luck gentleman. Peace.
I love the Price interviews too. I donated in hopes we can get a good section on the dating ranges of early writings after 30 AD. Everyone seems to have their ranges but would like to hear Carrier’s ranges and his likelihood spot for: the “pillar epistles”, does Hebrews follow Paul, and then rest of the epistles. All the rest seem to have been better understood. Seems so foundational to the whole discussion.
That’s a great idea. Thank you.
I have a problem with these facilitation services that rake ungodly percentages off of donations.
If it would work, I will gladly send you, Richard, a PayPal donation to be earmarked for the project.
You can set the amount you tip on the gofundme site. You can set it at 50c if you like. Derek will get 100% and gofundme .5% on top.
Oh, GoFundMe’s fee is not substantially different from PayPal’s. It’s pretty small (barely more than 2%). Not exhorbitant. And since it’s the same either way, you may as well go straight through GoFundMe.
Ok, done. Now let’s see if I can come up with a worthy issue to question.
Done and dusted, Richard.
Whatever happened to that other YouTube series involving you, I forget the creator’s channel, there was a trailer shot on a ferry I think? And maybe one episode other than trailers came out.
That was the Fully DE/Converted series. Arael Avinu, the host, published more than one episode (they were all short pieces) but then his channel fell silent. Possibly life intervened. I know he has more in the can to make shows with. You might try contacting him to see if he plans to continue the project.
Donated. 50-75 videos sounds great. How long will each video be?
Thank you!
Most commonly they will run between five and thirty minutes. Some may be longer. It will depend on what material he gets and how it can be organized most efficiently.
I see goal has been reached. Is this still happening?
It happened!
I just spent a week with Derek and Dennis MacDonald in a mountain cabin shooting over 70 videos. Derek will edit those professionally and publish them gradually on his channel over then next couple of years. And his Patreon patrons will get more and sooner previews of that material.
Thanks to all who helped fund this project. We produced a lot of great content. It was well worth it.
I just watched a couple of the Q & A videos and really enjoyed them. You guys look like you had a good and productive time. Looking forward to the rest!
Will the rest also be Q & A?
Most are either patron questions or Derek’s questions and us discussing an answer, interview style. A few are MacDonald and I pouring over passages and discussing evidence and methodology.
I think what would be really helpful is a visual timeline that illustrates all of the key dates and events that will be discussed with respect to the resurrection and release of the Gospels and other doctrines.
That way Dr. Carrier would visibly point out that for example that Paul’s letters were written in this time frame, and the Gospels were written in this time frame, and we could visibly see the significance of the year gaps between all of those events. It would also help to streamline the sequence of these events as you’re telling the story (historically speaking).
