Hi, I have an unrelated question, if you don’t mind. I’ve been re-reading OHJ and come to the section where you give an overview of Rank-Raglan scoring of the fictional characters in the reference class (pp. 231, Oedipus to Joseph). You write that the scores are taken from Raglan (in Segal’s In Quest of the Hero), except for the scoring of Osiris, and that you reduced some scores based on your own examination of the evidence. You don’t list which specific RR attributes each individual character scores, except for Jesus. I take this to indicate that the characters listed score the same attributes in your estimation as they do in Raglan’s, unless specified otherwise. Is that the case? Out of curiosity, which attributes did you subtract compared to Raglan? And finally, which attributes does Osiris score in your estimation? Thank you!
It’s been ages since, so I don’t recall what I deducted. I followed the scoring of Dundes (in Segal) otherwise. I’ll go over that in my second edition though (in production).
Osiris wasn’t covered in Dundes. So I used Plutarch’s On Isis and Osiris (possibly Osiris could score higher if we included more sources, as Plutarch won’t necessarily have been exhaustive in his discussion of the myth, although he is nearly).
I have that on file somewhere. So I’ll dig that up and post it here.

You mean “of Raglan”, right? You reference pp. 138-144 of Segal, A. In Quest of the Hero (Princetion, 1990) and that’s a page range in the “The Hero” chapter of Raglan’s “The Hero: A Study in Tradition, Myth, and Drama, Part II”. Dundes’ material doesn’t start until p. 179. Oh, yes, you are right. Segal (editor), Raglan (author); and I followed Dundes’ interpretations of scoring points (which are corrective of some of Raglans), also in Segal. So, yes, Raglan’s scores, which in some cases I lowered by one or two points because I felt the scoring elements were too vague. Though I don’t recall which points.
I’ll give examples of vague point scoring in my article on Osiris which I will launch in a couple of days, using my old notes on that, to answer your other question.
